Our Philosophy Takes Language from Foreign to Familiar

Whether you’re a visitor to Switzerland, or an expatriate who plans to stay awhile, one of your first and most understandable concerns might be communication. Switzerland’s four national languages include German, French, Italian, and Rumantsch. This can be a daunting obstacle for any English speaking expat – ask a vet and they’ll tell you.

We at Cabinet Veterinaire International understand the frustration encountered by English speaking clients, particularly when combing through potential animal hospitals in search of puppy care, care for a dog’s pregnancy, necessary dog medicine (heartworm or other pet medication), or attention to a dog’s constipation or other health problems…especially when communication doesn’t flow freely. We understand a dog’s illnesses and symptoms can only be remedied if the looming language barrier is shattered.

Dog Health Care Starts with Prevention

Animal hospitals can only be as good as the preventative care that they offer…because dog owners don’t get do-overs. Just as you maintain your own health with the help of yearly visits to your doctor and dentist, your dog’s longevity and health depend upon proper preventative care - beginning with first-class puppy care, through adulthood, and into specialized senior dog care.

When your pet’s veterinarian is able to speak English fluently, you are sure to understand all of the provisions that need to be taken to ensure the health of your dog, including:

• Regular yearly health exams. Dogs age up to 7 times more quickly than their human friends. Because of dogs’ accelerated aging, annual check-ups, at a minimum, are required. Dog health problems can lie in hiding, detectable only by an animal doctor.

• Regular dental cleaning and exams. Most dog owners might not associate tooth brushing with dog illnesses such as liver, kidney, and heart disease. But, when you regularly brush your dog’s teeth, you not only clean that mouth and freshen that breath, but you go a long way in the prevention of periodontal disease and its systemic effects.

• Vaccinations provide dogs with the armor they need to fight common illnesses. Skipping your dog’s vaccines can lead to debilitating, even deadly, health problems.

Don’t forget that contracting with an English speaking pet doctor will ensure that you understand all of the directives delivered during your dog’s visits to the vet. Your dog isn’t able to convey everything he or she is feeling. If you add that communication roadblock to a language barrier between you and the veterinarian, you’ll set the scene for gridlock. Thanks to Dr. Omaboe’s fluent English, the road is now open and ready for travel.

It has been said that any person who knows three languages is worth three people. “How,” you might ask, “does that apply to my quest in finding a vet?” Because, when a veterinarian knows three languages, he or she is capable of reaching out to three times the number of patients, is three times more likely to extract valuable information from various sources, and is three times more likely to bring all of that exposure back to the complete care of your dog.
